YET ANOTHER BUDGET POST…..

Hubby and I only have the mortgage as a debt with a continuous balance. All other debts are paid off every month and do not incur interest charges. I currently pay extra on our mortgage, but should I do that when we are actively looking for another home?

TALK TUESDAY: TOO MUCH TALKING!

Hubby and I look forward to each symphony season. I believe we have purchased season tickets at least three times. The last two seasons I have been reluctant to renew due to the rudeness of the other ticket holders. One wonders if it is a sign of the times when people cannot enjoy a concert without hearing/seeing:

1. Humming during the concert

2. Talking during the concert

3. Loud gum chewing during the concert

4. Excessive public displays of affection.

5. Using electronic devices during concert

6. Coughing almost incessantly… if you are sick- stay home!

7. Talking during the concert.

8. Laughing during the concert

9. Clapping in between movements instead of after the completion of the piece.

When did common courtesy become so uncommon?

But You Don't Even Sew!!!

She has a fancy girl smile.
What shall I name her?

Well! We all have to start at some point! Yes, I know how to sew a stitch here and there, but now it is time to get down to the nitty gritty. Actually, the time was many years ago, but I am a late bloomer and my right foot is smaller that my left which doesn't even pertain to this post.... Don't even tell me you didn't smile!

My mantilla/veil lady has gone missing in action which leaves me with the challenge of sewing! I knew I had to start sometime and the day has come. The reviews on this sewing machine were all very positive and I was able to purchase on Amazon.com with a price below Walmart.

I am reading the manual right now, but please stay tuned for upcoming projects!

Talk Tuesday: Imitation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Have any of you heard of or read The Imitation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Rev. Fr. Peter J. Arnoudt S.J.?

I found this summary on Amazon.com:
Imprimatur: 1904. By: Rev. Peter J. Arnoudt S.J. - [from the 1904 edition] "This book will lead souls to sanctity." Full of wisdom for every type of person, and written with such natural simplicity, some say this book is even more inspiring than The Imitation of Christ. Written in a format in which Our Lord speaks to the reader, through the holy author, Fr. Arnoudt S.J., it "points out the path to every virtue and perfection.

This is the book I referenced on Sunday and may become the 13th book of 2013... I best get reading!

CROCK POT BRAISED SHORT RIBS

4 lb. beef short ribs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
2 med. onions, sliced
2 bell peppers sliced
1/2 cup carrots
1 can of crushed or diced tomatoes
2 cloves of garlic
3 tbsp. oil
1 1/2 c. broth
coconut flower for coating

Dredge ribs in flour, salt and pepper. Brown well. Layer onions, ribs and liquid. Cook on low 8-10 hours or high 4-6 hours.

If you know me, then you know that I don't tangle with recipes. I loathe measuring and who wants to read a recipe when you have 30 minutes to get a meal on the table?

So, surprise, surprise when I became a bit enamored with braised short ribs. I searched a number of websites and finally came across three recipes that I morphed into a HUNIELAND recipe!

So, here is the story about my my trip down "Recipe Lane".
I sliced the vegetables and placed in the crock pot with a few cloves of garlic

I added a couple of roasted poblano peppers

I used coconut flour, salt, and pepper as I browned the ribs

Maybe a little too brown!

I added beef broth and diced tomatoes into the crock pot before  throwing in the ribs.

And, we're done!

I normally take 30 minutes to prepare my meals so this was  a harder meal for me since I am always short on time (like everyone else). Did Hubby and I love the dish? It was a fair meal, but not jaw-dropping goodness---even with the additional spices I added (hot sauce, chili powder, more salt, pepper, and garlic). I would label this dish as a cross between a stew and a pot roast but with a lot more fat. Would I make this again? Well, the funny thing is that this meal tasted much better on the third day with the poblano chili pepper really coming out in the flavor.
So, we will leave this decision on the table for now.

Talk Tuesday

In all honesty, I a m not savvy enough to think of a tip that you probably already don't know about or have put to use at one time or another. So, I thought I would mix things up a bit and add a new segment called "Talk Tuesday". A more interactive post that asks you to answer a question or discuss a subject. This can be anything from serious to silly.

My first question is a silly question!

How many days in a row do you wear the same outfit?

I will admit to you that I have worn an outfit three days in a row in my past-usually on a Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Why?

I don't consider an outfit dirty when it has only been worn for a few hours.
It cuts down on laundry.
I see different people on each of those days.
If Hubby and I attend a symphony- I dress up. I wear the outfit a total of four hours.
I can wear the same outfit to Mass on Sunday and then wear it again for work on Monday.

So, come on....confess!
