Friday's Favorites: Polaroid Cameras

Hubby bought me a Polaroid Mini camera for Christmas and I have really enjoyed using it! I am sure the nostalgia plays a large part in it but it is also nice to have a tangible picture that you can put in a photo album or create a scrap book. I was even thinking of putting the pictures in one of my calendars as a kind of walk down memory lane.

Reading List Update 1

1. Meditations on Mary

Ten Universal Principals

  Saints vs. Scoundrels

I know you are totally impressed but don't be- I started all of these in 2017 and just finished them this month! All are great books and each for a different reason.

Meditations on Mary was helpful in uniting myself to the Mother of God and experiencing her deep connection and pain with her Son.

I would say my favorite was Ten Universal Principles because the philosophy is helpful for my pro-life work.

I was surprised that i would like Saints Vs. Scoundrels so much. I normally don't like to read a work of fiction based on true people but this was amazing. I thought the author really brought to life each saint and obliterated each scoundrel and all with truth!

Powerful Pro-Life Message

This couple is amazing!

Tasteful Tuesday: Freezer Cooking

4 deep dish pie crusts for the bottom and regular size for the top.

28 ounces of Honey Gold Potatoes

Boiled and then peeled

Sauteed chicken and onions

Mixed altogether

Spooned into a pre-baked pie dish

3 packed into the freezer for future meals

Dinner!

I have never really caught onto the whole freezer cooking trend but lately chicken pot pie has been on the brain which is a great freezer meal. Also, Husband hasn't been completely anti-bread so I jumped on the chance.

Now, I struggle with making pot pies juicy/creamy until now. I really packed the creaminess and this recipe may shock you.  I made three chicken and one vegetarian pot pie with this recipe.

Total prep/cook time: 1 hour 40 minutes
Clean up time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

salt, pepper, and garlic to taste
1 large white onion
2 skinless chicken breasts
28 ounces honey gold potatoes
1/2 cup of frozen peas
1/2 cup of carrots
1/4 cup green beans
2 cans cream of chicken soup (for chicken pot pies)
1 can cream of mushroom soup (for vegetarian pot pie0
2 cups heavy whipping cream
water or stock- amount is based on your preference of liquid.

Chicken, onions, and potatoes were pre-cooked and cooled.
The base pie crust was baked in the oven at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes.

This saves me in the area of clean up and some prep time but in general, I usually make meals within 30 minutes on an almost daily basis unless doing something a little more complicated.

Musically Manic Monday: Full Week

Work: I anticipate averaging five to nine hours of overtime each week until (if) I finally catch up.

Home: Hoping to get the house in a better order by the end of the week. We need to put away some things and drop off donations to de-clutter some areas of the house.

Church: Hubby is working on pricing a large number of donated books for the chapel.

Dinner: Making chicken pot pie this week but I will cheat by using pre-made crusts. Don't hate me.

Budget:  Still working on finalizing 2017... need information from Hubby. I hope he reads this post and sends the information my way.

Pre-life: Going to the abortion clinic this week.

Exercise: The weather is supposed to finally warm up so I hope to take the dog on a few walks.

Wheelin' Wednesday: I've Got Connections

A friend of mine has a husband who works for 3M and can purchase various items throughout the year at quite a discounted amount. My friend knows I clean my chapel multiple times a month and offered to order items for me. Below is a picture (Ambrose is photo bombing-sorry) of my goodies! The dust mop alone was sold to me at a reduction of 73% of retail!

Musically Manic Monday: 2018 is Here!

Work: I anticipate averaging five to nine hours of overtime each week until (if) I finally catch up.

Church: First Friday is this week and so is the main chapel cleaning.

Dinner: I need to get back on schedule starting today. We ate out quite a bit last week.

Budget:  Wrapping up 2017!

Yard/Garden: It is too cold to do anything in the yard right now... I guess I could work on a landscape project..hmmmm.. need to talk with the husband.

Feast of the Circumciscion

The 1st day of January is the Octave Day of Christmas (i.e., from December 25 to January 1, inclusive, are 8 days).

This is the Feast of the Circumcision, a day known in the Novus Ordo as "Mary, Mother of God"; either way, January 1 is a Holy Day of Obligation on which we must attend Mass. On this day, we recall Our Lord's submitting to the Mosaic Law by getting circumcised on the 8th day of His human life in obedience to the Law:
Genesis 17:10-12:
This is my covenant which you shall observe between me and you, and thy seed after thee: All the male-kind of you shall be circumcised. And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, that it may be for a sign of the covenant between me and you. An infant of eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every manchild in your generations: he that is born in the house, as well as the bought servant, shall be circumcised
Our Lord later fulfilled this part of Torah through the Sacrament of Baptism, an event which will be brought into focus on the Feast of the Epiphany in 5 days and again on the 13th of January at the Commemoration of the Baptism of Our Lord. His Circumcision, though, has another, deeper meaning in that it symbolizes and foreshadows the Blood He will shed for us on Calvary...

Today, too, we honor the Holy Name of Jesus which was given to Him on this day. We celebrate His Holy Name more fully next Sunday (or tomorrow if the first Sunday of the year falls today, or on the 6th or the 7th), on the Feast of the Holy Name.

On this day, a plenary indulgence can be acquired, under the usual conditions, by reciting the Veni, Creator Spiritus (Come, Holy Spirit).
