Jesus and the Last Supper

Wow. That is how I would describe this book. Brant Pitre is an amazing writer who spent a great deal of time researching and truly breaking down the meaning behind the eschatological meaning behind the Last Supper and Christ's words.  Pitre views Jesus' words from the point of view of a first century Jew and unfolds layer after layer of the hidden meanings.   Although I would consider this an academic book; my prayer life improved after reading this book. As you understand more deeply His words- it brings you closer to Him and the truest/purest meaning of what He was saying.  If you read anything this year- this is the book!

Love, Peace and Joy

For Christmas, Hubby and I read the thirty day devotional of Saint Gertrude the Great. I admit that I would have received more from it had I read her Revelations first. I do lo e how Our Lady is titled " Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus". First Friday Mass is my favorite and I love how Mary is linked to Our Lord with that title.

2017 Reading List Update: Treatise on the Spiritual Life

 

What a great book! This is a quick read but something one could keep on hand for daily reading.

St. Vincent Ferrer (Dominican) wrote nineteen brief instructions on a variety of subjects to help all in the spiritual journey. I found chapters 16 through 19 the most helpful for my spiritual life.

I recently read this book for work purposes and thought I would give you a quick summary.

The book discusses how happiness can have a positive influence in your life externally, spiritually, and within your body. There are scientific studies showing that those who are more positive enjoy better health than those who worry and are negative.

 

2017 Reading List Update: The Case for Jesus

 

I just finished this book and I am getting to start another one by the same author. Brant Pitre does a fantastic job of explaining the Gospels through the eyes of a first century Jew. I think many of us read the Bible with our modern day minds and often do not take the time to think of what was going on in the world when Jesus Christ came to proclaim His message of being the Messiah. Pitre takes you to that mindset as he dives into each of the Gospels and explains very important passages and statements Christ said during His time on earth. Christ's words take on an entirely new depth and one gains a deeper understanding of why Christ spoke the way He did and what it meant to a Jew who was waiting for the messiah. I cannot recommend this book enough and hope each of you pick up a copy.

2017 Reading List: The Crocodile by Dostoyevsky

 

Short story(can be read here) by one of my favorite authors. The story is fantastical and concerns a man who is accidentally eaten by a crocodile and survives! If you read between the lines you can pick up on the political meanings. A quick and fun read.

2017 Reading List

This year I am not going to create a list of books to read. I have decided to let the reading choices come organically as the year progresses.

I just finished a short book called Our Lady of Good Success by Marian Therese Horvat

 

I cannot recommend this book enough! it chronicles the visions received by a nun in the 16th and 17th century. The visions were specific prophesies for the 20th century.

Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres (1563-1635) was a Spanish Conceptionist sister who traveled from her country to the New world to help found the Royal Convent in Quito, Ecuador.

Favored with many singular gifts from heaven, this chosen soul was given to know many future events, especially the grievous situation of the Church in the 20th Century.

Our Lady told her that in our lamentable times, heresies would abound, the corruption of manners and customs would be almost complete, and the light of the Faith nearly extinguished. To atone for the many profanations, blasphemies, and abuses and to hasten the day of the triumphant restoration, this 17th century sister was asked to become an expiatory victim for our times.

But Our Lady promised Her intercession at the very moment "when the evil will appear triumphant and when the authority abuses my power." This would "mark the arrival of my hour, when I, in a marvelous way, will dethrone the proud and accursed Satan, trampling him under my feet and fettering him in the infernal abyss." These words harmonize perfectly with the message of hope Our Lady delivered to the three children at Fatima in 1917: "In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph."

 

 

2017 Projects/Resolutions/Spiritual Growth

I know you beautiful people are jumping up in the air at the sight of this post. You have probably been sitting at your computer wondering when I would post anything that would have anything to do with 2017. I'm pretty sure there is drool all over your keyboard (Are you checking?). Well the wait is over! Hunie has gotten it together and here we go people!


House Projects:

Hubby and I had a lot planned but we do not have enough money so what is presented here are projects we can afford in 2017.

1. Replaced 5 of our windows for the house.
2. Replace a computer that is 10 years old.
3. Purchase a desk and convert one of the bedrooms into an office.
4. Finish painting front porch
5. Paint back door
