Homemade Bread

That round one reminds me of the roundness of certain parts of my body......

Check out the butter melting by the heat of the fresh from the oven bread....

Massive grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner- massive!
I'm not a big fan of baking since I do not like to be bothered with measuring the ingredients and such. Well,  I guess Hubby thought that since I didn't like to bake-- that I couldn't bake.

So, after one month of healthy eating and a free afternoon (not really- who am I kidding), I whipped up a couple of loaves of bread!

Recipe
The recipe is linked above and is one of the easiest I have ever come across. Most of the time you are doing other things in between the times the bread needs to rise so it isn't as time consuming as one would think. Maybe, I will make this a monthly treat for us...

And then I fed Hubby this the next day.....Disgusting and yummy at the same time....

Random Updates/Chit Chat

Hello All!

I know my posts have been down this past month but I do hope to change that in September. Picking everything out for the two bathrooms has been quite time consuming along with my regular duties. My goal is to post some pictures of the bathrooms before, during, and after over the next six weeks.
One of my bathrooms will be pretty standard, but the other will have a little pizzazz (because we are all about pizzazz in this house)!

Choral practice starts tomorrow and I am excited and weary of it at the same time. I love to learn new music and stretch the vocal chords, but the practices can be hard when working 10-12 hour shifts. I also dislike the performance aspect. My ideal would be a recording of the group singing together after we had practiced the songs during the season. No audience so I don't stress out!

Hubby has banned me from working on any other outside projects except the air conditioner landscape (I need to throw in the deck). I am not sure how everything will play out while the bathroom remodel is going on, but maybe I can fit in spurts of work here and there.

Let's see... what else?

Still working on the Dr. Who scarf. I know I finished another colour, but it has been slow going. This will be another thing on my list.

Maybe I haven't explained that I will be off from work while the remodel is being handled. I don't know about you, but I want to be in my house while work is done and the month of September and October will have a couple of weeks of remodeling taking place. My goal is to work on all sorts of house projects, cleaning, reading, and anything else that comes to mind since I am homebound through all of this.

(Queue random list)

Yard:
air conditioner landscape
strip and re-stain deck
mail box garden
front garden
back yard garden
use that weed wacker properly!
weed whereever possible
sweep the porch/spruce it up

House:
clean garage
organize all closets
clean dining room
dust all rooms
clean washroom
work in half bathroom
laundy
ironing
put up new weather stripping

Personal Goals:
get in some walks
 read and finish four books
work on knitting project
pro life work
make sure both cars are cleaned out

Guess we will see how I make out in the end!

Saturated Saturday: Wet with a touch of Volunteer

Just a Black and Yellow Argiope spider hanging out in my front garden.

Hubby and I have watched this spider grow in size at an alarming pace. You should see this thing spin it's victim before eating it!
Anyway- we keep our spiders handy in the front yard and try not to disturb them.

Anyway, anyway... it is a rainy Saturday morning and very cool for an August day. I had one window opened all evening and it cooled the house down very nicely. I don't think we will need to use the air conditioner for a couple of days- which is great!

To keep things even this week- I decided to move my next abortion clinic prayer vigil to the following weekend since I have some church volunteer work two days in a row.

Let us see if I can get the downstairs of my house in some kind of order and have a good meal on the table! I was doing better with over extending myself, but it didn't work this weekend and I am so very tired (thinking it is hormones).

Thoughtful Thursday.....A Page From My Mamma

As we celebrate the glorious Feast of Our Blessed Mother's Assumption, I can't help but reflect upon my own little mamma.  I think we forget what a blessing it is to grow up with Catholic parents- especially when one parent comes from generations of Catholicism. So, I would like to present a list of little sayings/devotions that have stayed with me all of these years.

1. Never cross your legs in church.
2. If you can't make it to Mass- you can't make it anywhere.
3. We don't listen to music during Lent.
4. Young ladies (unmarried) wear white mantillas in church.
5. You sit with your family, sing in choir or (if a boy) serve at Mass. You do not sit with your friends.
6. Church is for offering worship to God- not socializing. You do not go to church for your friends-you go for Christ.
7. Offer your crosses  up for poor souls in purgatory.
8. Be modest and clean in your dress/appearance.

Sisters, can you think of any?

Tuesday's Tip: Cucumber!

WHO KNEW CUCUMBERS COULD DO ALL THIS!!!

Spice up your 8 glasses per day of water with a slice or two of cucumber. It's wonderfully refreshing, but there are amazing benefits to cucumber as well. Cucumbers are cooler than you think ...

1. Fat busting: Do you ever wonder why women put cucumbers on their eyes to relieve puffiness? The photochemical in cucumbers makes the collagen in your skin tighten, thus the lack of puffiness. Did you know that you can rub a cucumber on a problematic spot of cellulite anywhere on your body to lessen the visibility of it? Did you also know that it has the same effect on wrinkles? Wow, it makes purchasing those fifty dollar creams seem a little silly, doesn’t it? You can also rub a little bit under your kiddo’s eyes after a long bout of crying to avoid that puffy ‘I cried for an hour straight’ look.

2. Defogger: Do you get annoyed when you get out of the shower and you have to fight the fog on the mirror? Who has time for that when the kids will be awake at any moment? Try rubbing a slice of cucumber on the mirror before you hop in and not only will you get a fog-free mirror, but you’ll have a nice smell that will boost your mood.

3. Headaches: If you suffer from headaches from chasing your babies all day (or pets or your husband), or had a little too much wine with dinner and want to avoid a hangover, eat half of a cucumber before bed. Cucumbers are high in B vitamins, sugar, and electrolytes, and they replenish the nutrients missing in your body to help you avoid a hang over or to beat that headache that’s been threatening to take over.

4. WD-40 replacement: Did you know you can get rid of a squeak by rubbing a cucumber on the hinge? Wow, now you don’t have to tear your garage apart looking for that little can with the red straw, and the baby won’t wake up when you slowly open the nursery door to check on him.

5. Crayon on the walls: Take an unpeeled cucumber and rub the crayon off of the walls in the event that your kiddo left you some art. You can also use this technique to erase a pen mistake.

6. Halitosis killer: Take a slice of cucumber and put it on the roof of your mouth. Hold it there with your tongue for 30 seconds. The photochemical that you love for cellulite and puff reduction will also kill the bacteria that is causing your bad breath.

7. Tarnish remover: If you’re finding tarnish on your stainless steel kitchen faucets and appliances? Rub it off with a cucumber slice. Not only will it remove years of tarnish, it will leave it streak free and your hands will thank you, and your kids won’t be put at risk from a dangerous chemical.

8. Energy booster: If you’re feeling tired in the afternoon, don’t give Starbucks your five bucks. Instead, grab a cucumber. There are just enough carbohydrates and B vitamins to give you a longer-lasting and healthier boost of energy than soda, coffee, or those health hazard energy drinks.

9. Munchy madness: Did you know that European trappers ate cucumbers for energy and to keep from starving to death? If those big burly manly men can eat a cucumber to keep from starving, you can eat one as a healthy choice when the munchies hit. Slice some up and take them in a small plastic container to the movies if your theater doesn’t offer healthy alternatives to munching on butter soaked popcorn.

10. Frugal facial: Slice up a cucumber and boil it in a pot of water. The chemicals inside of the cucumber will mix with the steam. Remove the pot from heat and lean over it, letting the steam hit you. Your skin will be more radiant and healthy, and you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated.

11. Shoe polish: Cut a slice off of your cucumber and rub it on your shoe. It will not only shine it up, but it will repel water.

12. Pest control: Put three or four slices of cucumber in a small pie tin and place them in your garden. The chemicals in the cucumber have a reaction that pests hate. You won’t smell it, but it will drive them from your garden all year long. Replace them periodically.

13. Sunburn: Sometimes sun block doesn’t always protect your little ones from sunburn. If you have burnt little kiddos you don’t have any aloe, rub some cucumber on them. Many doctors even use cucumber to treat patients with irritated skin and sunburns.

14. Blood pressure: Cucumber has been long used to treat high blood pressure. If you have it, add cucumbers to your daily diet. There is also ongoing research into the use of cucumbers for lowering cholesterol.

15. Constipation remedy: The seeds of a cucumber are a diuretic. If you’re constipated, try eating a cucumber. If you suffer from chronic constipation, add cucumber to your daily diet

Friday's Favorites: I Actually Finished Something.....

This was my guest bedroom floor earlier this year.
I decided to convert a server into a piece of furniture that would help my organization.

I finally put together all my records for 2012!

All my 2013 records are now filed!

My stationary needs are handled!

I still need to work through my budget and receipts but I am very happy to have tackled and completed this project! The weekend I completed this was a four day weekend which was almost completely wasted away. It was true illness played a factor, but did I milk it just to be lazy? I am not sure. You could say I was productive in some things, but one can always do better.
