Thoughtful Thursday: If You Know Me....

You know that I love planners and calendars of all shapes and sizes. Well, do I have a treat for you! My new place of employment has a novel way of ordering calendars for their employees. The mailroom has an ordering book for each and everyone employee to pick our their own planner. All originality here as you can pick what you want and I just love that!

I ordered this calendar which has a different scenic picture for every week and every month and was awed by the beauty of these pictures!

Kohls*****

I don't normally shop at Kohls, but I came across these deals for sun glasses and hosiery. I needed both of these and couldn't resist the reduced prices for each of these items.
The sunglasses are Dockers and retail for over $20.00 each. Now, I think this store inflates their prices, but $2.60 for glasses isn't a bad deal to me!

As much as I was enjoying my Dooney and Bourke handbag, I thought it was time to bring in the Autumn coloured handbags of my collection. This reminds me of the carpet bags of years gone by -don't you think?

Musically Manic Monday: The End of October

Church: All Saints' Day party this upcoming weekend and the Feast of Christ of King this Sunday with a wonderful procession.

Music: Working on my voice lesson project of re-phrasing a piece. There is also a possibility of a performance in December.. haven't decided about that!

Home: I finally caught up with my ironing and laundry... now I need to catch up on some sweeping and yard work. I am hopeless!

Work: No complaints!

Projects: We have one of our two garlic orders in and will soon be planting our entire garden... watch for updates on my other blog!

Women Do Regret Their Abortions

Annalise, one of the beautiful young prayer warriors/sidewalk counselors (she's wearing the cowboy hat in the first attached picture), stopped Mandy's car and started talking to her as she motioned another sidewalk counselor to help her. Mandy is a married mother of a 6 yr. old and one in the womb. She said a baby doesn't fit into her plans right now. Her husband is about to have back surgery and she didn't see how she could be having a baby at this time. She said her husband didn't want her to have the abortion. After much talk with her, she said, "I changed my mind. I am going to keep the baby." When asked if she wanted to go out for coffee, she said, "No, I am going home to my husband." As well she should have. She also said, "Thank you to all of you for being here!" Please keep that beautiful little family in prayer. Note: There were a lot of people out there at the time. Charlotte Catholic Women's Group was out there. Also, some homeschool families were there today (see other attached picture), as well as several individuals.

Another beautiful story: Carmen, who turned away from abortion late last spring, all of a sudden called one of the sidewalk counselors out of the blue and they got together to talk and pray this morning. Then she was brought to Latrobe today to pray and be a wonderful witness to life. She is seven months pregnant. Please keep her in prayer also.

Tomorrow is looking like it may be a mini prayer blow out day. St. Thomas Aquinas parish is scheduled to cover the day. Also, there all morning will be Calvary Baptist Church (their 2nd day they signed up for), St. Therese parish in Mooresville and St. Mary's parish in Shelby. Thank you! Also, everyone stop by if you can.

The Compromise of Glee

Fox network has a television show called Glee and as the name implies, it is filled with music galore. The show is centered on a group of misfits within a high school who are musically inclined in various degrees. I love music so it is only natural that I would be attracted to such a television show. I enjoy listening and watching people who have true musical talent and not just some paparazzi attraction.
Hubby and I watched the first season together and enjoyed a number of the singing/dancing sequences, but I often found myself compromising with my morals as I watched each episode.

Let’s review a few of the compromises.

Music teacher leaving his wife and then engaging in relationships outside of his marriage: Divorce is man made and should not be condoned in any situation. As ugly as the situation was/is in this show- it isn’t grounds to engage in activities with another woman. The covenant between a man and a woman has been raised to the level of a sacrament by Our Lord and should not be watered down to accommodate those who do not keep this sacrament sacred.

Promiscuity: Almost all of the characters are engaged in sexual activities outside the laws of marriage and outside the laws of God. The show does a splendid job emphasizing the suffering of a gay student, but fails when it comes to the fact that this lifestyle is wrong. This leads right into the various students engaging in sexual acts with multiple partners without a blink of an eye- all outside the sacrament of marriage and outside the laws of God. Most people forget that an attraction to something doesn’t make it right and that is the case in any situation. You can be attracted to drinking in excess, but is that right? You can be attracted to eat at a gluttonous level, but that doesn’t make it right. You can desire to physically harm a person, but does it make it right? Where is the self control? Where is the self respect?

Musical Choices: I love music and I really love Gregorian chant and anything composed by Palestrina so why was a listening to this stuff? This show glorified musical artists who could never ever compete with my musical favorites. In addition to that; their personal lives were right in line with what was being promoted on this television show. Lady Gaga as a musical icon? Please, her latest musical conquest and music video is nothing less than absolute sacrilege. Why was I subjecting myself to this?

Sacrilege: The final straw was the “Grilled Chesus” episode. I think the title says it all and if you can’t guess then you are better off.

That night, Hubby and I turned off the show and I turned back to my Palestrina whose songs doing nothing but praise Our Lord. It is sad to think that I wasted all of that time on a sacrilegious show when I could have spent it on praising Our Savior. Forgive me dear Lord, for I do know what I have done.

FRIIDAY'S FAVORITES: OUR LITTLE "HABITS"

I have this habit of de-jeweling (is that a word?) myself right when I walk through my door. I will take off my watch, rings, earrings, and then flip my shoes in some random place on the first floor. Obviously, the latter has caused a loss of shoes, but the jewelry is a different story. I found myself leaving my "come home from work" stuff on our china cabinet shelf. Husband followed suit and began the same little habit. Should we do this? Nah, we probably should put away these items in their respective places, but I am okay with it. In fact, I pulled out these pepper shaped condiment containers and placed them on our cabinet shelf. Now, when we come home- we place our little things in our respective peppers and I just love it. I think it is a sweet habit and I love it- just love it.
