Timer Tidy

I am sure there are plenty of folks who do this sort of thing, but I will tell my silly story anyway!

I tend to be a deep dive cleaner which results in one space being immaculate while the rest of the house suffers.

To counter act- I try to engage in "Timer Tidies". I allot myself a certain period of time to work in each room of the house in tandem with a priority goal for that room.

For example, this morning I worked in the living room for 30 minutes with a priority goal of cleaning a lampshade.  Done and done!

Have you heard of this way of cleaning, and do you engage in such an activity?

Keep It Clean

For those short on cleaning supplies- please keep in mind that......

You can wet paper towels, place in a plastic bag and then pour alcohol, vinegar, or diluted bleach onto the towels. Keep these sealed until you need them.

Hydrogen peroxide
Oregano oil

Both of these are also good for cleaning

Organization 2019: Medicine/Linen Closet

I know I keep organizing this closet but I finally bought some organizing tools to help me.

Never impressed

My next goal is to group and organize all my cleaning supplies.

Cleaning Frenzy

I have been watching a lot of British cleaning shows which has put me on a kick to clean more obscure things. Today, I ventured into the crevices of the washing machine.

Do you have any obscure cleaning ideas?

Freezing and then Ironing- have you tried it?

A lady at work mentioned that her mother used to freeze shirts and then pull them out when ready to iron. I had never heard of this and decided to scour the internet to see what I could find. I came across a forum which had the following posted:

This is quoted from the book Laundry by Robert Doyle:

"after drying, garments to be ironed are best sprinkled with warm water to dampen them thoroughly, then each garment rolled up into a tight ball, placing each into a plastic bag and into the refrigerator for a couple of hours so that the items are thoroughly dampened and chilled.  .... then with a dry iron, set at the cotton setting, proceed to iron out the wrinkles ...   the dampened and chilled garments will iron more efficiently since the iron glides effortlessly over the chilled fabric."

He also writes that heavier irons work better than lightweight ones and that a dry iron with a mist bottle works better than a steam iron.  This is on cotton and linen fabrics.

So, for kicks and giggles- I decided to try this out and see if ironing is easier.

Spraying down the dry shirts

Rolling tightly and placing into a plastic bag

Into the freezer it goes!

I ironed both chilled and not chilled shirts

And the results?
It was true! The iron seemed to glide more easily over the shirts when they were chilled compared to those at room temperature.

Update

"Home: I am keeping my kitchen up, and want to do more. Yes, I am good with major cleaning, but the everyday stuff is what kills me. Anyway, this week I have promised myself to do just ONE cleaning duty in addition to dinner, kitchen cleaning, and laundry upkeep each day of the week."

Although you would never know from looking at my house, but I think writing down one specific task to be completed (in addition to dinner dishes) each day as helped me. I am going to continue this for the rest of the month and we will see how my home looks on May 31st.

This was a sheet before I messed with the steam.

After a few sweeps with the steam
